Odor Removal Services for Commercial Businesses in Aitkin?

10/24/2023 (Permalink)

A customer notices an offensive odor. Aitkin County businesses rely on us for odor removal services.

Do you notice an unpleasant odor in your workplace or building? Our local Aitkin, Carlton, and West St. Louis Counties team is highly trained and certified to remove foul odors in commercial properties and homes effectively.

Odor identification and removal can be challenging as odors may derive from many sources inside and outside the building, making them difficult to diagnose. Our technicians are trained and certified by the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) to identify and eliminate offensive odors. We never mask odors or take shortcuts as these methods are ineffective.

Odor Identification

The first step is to identify the source of the smell and locate where the odor is contacting surfaces. Sometimes the odors originate from more than one location in the building.

Odor Elimination Process

Once we identify the cause of the odor and determine the conditions where it contacts surfaces, the odor can often be removed over time without a trace. Our technicians use several odor removal products capable of thoroughly penetrating surfaces to neutralize unpleasant scents.

What Steps Can I Take To Protect My Commercial Business From Frozen Pipe Damage in Moose Lake?

1/31/2023 (Permalink)

Commercial pipes are insulated to prevent freezing. We respond to commercial storm damage emergencies 24 hours a day in Carlton County.

Our teams in Aitkin, Carlton, and West St. Louis Counties often respond to property damage emergencies in the winter in Moose Lake. Here are some tips from the Insurance Institute of Business and Home Safety for preventing commercial pipes from freezing this winter:

  • Insulate and seal around attic penetrations such as partition walls, vents, plumbing stacks, and electric and mechanical chases
  • Inspect and seal or repair all cracks, holes, leaks, windows, doors, and other openings on exterior walls with caulk or insulation to prevent cold air from penetrating the wall cavity
  • Ensure your pipes in hard-to-reach places like attics, crawl spaces, and outside walls are insulated—wrap pipes and faucets in unheated or minimally heated areas of the building
  • Make sure your existing freeze-protection devices and alarms are in good working order. Test freeze stats (low-temperature sensing device) and valves before the weather gets cold.
  • Pipes leading to the exterior should be shut off and drained at the start of winter. If these exterior faucets do not have a shut-off valve inside the building, have one installed by a plumber.
  • Hire a licensed fire protection specialist to conduct routine maintenance on your sprinkler system. Discuss the system’s exposure to winter weather and potential mitigation options.

Smoke from Nearby Fire Damages Commercial Property in Aitkin?

11/1/2022 (Permalink)

Room filled with smoke We restore commercial property damage 24-hours a day in Aitkin County.

Do you know that 50 percent of businesses never reopen after a fire damage loss? Our teams in Aitkin, Carlton, and West St. Louis Counties work hard to get your business operational again quickly after a fire. The smoke residue leaves a unique signature based on what fuels are burned in the fire. Here are some examples of the types of equipment we use to remove smoke damage:

Air Scrubber or Filter

Heating, ventilation, air conditioning system (HVAC) air scrubber, or a high-efficiency particulate air filter (HEPA) air purifier can capture larger smoke molecules. There will still be some residual odor from smaller molecules or surface residues.

Ozone Generator

An ozone generator is a fast and highly effective smoke odor restoration method. These machines emit ozone, which follows the same paths through the air as smoke and oxidizes any residual traces in the air or on surfaces.

Vapor Modification

Vapor modification is another odor elimination method that relies on aromatic compounds and a blower or fan to neutralize smoke odor

  3. Remove debris

    2. Also, check under and around all roof-mounted equipment, satellite dishes, antennas, and solar panels for debris that could disrupt the drainage system’s water flow or cause ponding

Smoke-Damaged Building in Aitkin?

A wall is covered in dirty soot. We are trusted leaders in fire damage restoration in Aitkin County.

SERVPRO® of Aitkin, Carlton & West St. Louis Counties has been restoring fire damage for Aitkin residents and businesses for years. Smoke damage is especially challenging to remove. Here are some examples of smoke removal equipment we may use:

  • High Efficiency Particulate Arresting (HEPA) Filter. This is the highest quality air filter available and is certified to remove 99.97 percent of all particles down to 0.3 microns in size.
  • Activated Carbon Filter. Often used along with a HEPA filter, this is most useful in removing gases, chemicals, and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).
  • An ionizer emits negative ions, which cause airborne particles to collect into the air filter or onto the floor or walls. This can reduce allergens in the air to as small as 0.1 microns.
  • Ozone Machines. These machines release ozone into the air. The oxidation that occurs changes the chemical structure of smoke, other odors. After a few hours, the smoke odor is removed from the room.

Property Damage in Aitkin

Severe weather can topple trees any time of the day or night. When my tenant called to tell me that trees had fallen overnight, causing damage to her apartment, I knew I had to act fast. Fortunately, no one was injured, and the storm-damaged just the balcony and one window. I called SERVPRO® of Aitkin, Carlton & West St. Louis Counties and they arrived quickly and immediately began mitigating the damage. They conducted an assessment of the damage and contacted the insurance adjuster.

The team immediately began the cleanup and restoration process. They boarded up the damaged window and repaired the damage to the balcony railing. They cleaned up all of the broken glass and removed the downed trees. They replaced the broken window from extra stock I had in our supply room, and by the end of the day, you would never know there had been any property damage to begin with.

Flood Preparation for your business

SERVPRO Technician extracting water from a business Call SERVPRO of Aitkin, Carlton and West St Louis Counties to extract the water from your business after it floods.

Do you need to protect your business from possible flood damages? Many water damage restoration services recommend taking steps to mitigate damage before it occurs as a way to protect the property and reduce clean up times and costs. A flood dam is one way to do this. Here is what you may want to know. Using these tools properly may help you reduce the amount of damage your business could face in the next big storm.

1. How They Work

In most cases flood dams work by directing water flow away from the threatened area. Many people choose sandbags as they are easy to build in a variety of protective formations. Dry sand is loaded into the bag, and the bag is then folded and placed to create a wall. When the water reaches the wall, it is absorbed by the sand which then becomes heavier, harder to move, and creates a tighter seal.

2. Where to Place Them

When creating a sandbag barrier to protect your business, it’s recommended to construct it in a way that directs the flow of water rather than trying to block it. This will put less force on the wall, and keep the water moving to a safe drainage location. Consider setting the barrier up so that the water flows downhill and away from the property, or into a drainage ditch or open field where it can disperse safely.

3. When to Use Them

One of the best ways to reduce flood damage is to know when to use a flood dam. In most cases you may want to consider the use of sandbags any time you believe flooding may pose a high risk to the property.

Electrical Fire Commercial Electrical Fire

SERVPRO works to make it "Like it never even happened." Fire, smoke and soot cleanup and restoration is a service we provide and knowing the types of smoke patterns are vital to proper restoration.

An electrical fire can initially smell like plastic burning and experts say you are lucky if you smell something as most warning signs are invisible and odorless. Electrical fires are often caused by faulty outlets or outdated appliances. Appliances with frayed cords can cause a fire by sending heat onto combustible surfaces like floors, curtains and rugs. Running cords under rugs is another fire hazard and should never be done.

According to Hunker website, water can also start a fire as the moisture can rapidly increase the current in the circuit. This will cause a short circuit as the fuse is blown. If there is no fuse, the wire will heat up and a fire could start.

Five Safety Tips

  1. Keep an eye on damaged outlets
  2. Replace frayed cords
  3. Avoid extension cords
  4. Install designated circuit breakers
  5. Never pull a plug out by the cord

3 Things to Know About Sandbags

5/18/2020 (Permalink)

When faced with a storm in Northern MN, you may be considering the possibility of a sand bag wall to protect your home or business. Many water damage restoration services recommend taking steps to mitigate damage before it occurs as a way to protect the property and reduce clean up times and costs. A flood dam is one way to do this. Here is what you may want to know.

1. How They Work

In most cases flood dams works by directing water flow away from the threatened area. Many people choose sandbags as they are easy to build in a variety of protective formations. This will put less force on the wall, and keep the water moving to a safe drainage location. Consider setting the barrier up so that the water flows down hill and away from the property, or into a drainage ditch or open field where it can disperse safely.

3. When to Use Them

One of the best ways to reduce flood damage is to know when to use a flood dam. In most cases you may want to consider the use of sand bags any time you believe flooding may pose a high risk to the property.

When making a sand bag wall or using another flood dam type to protect your company it’s important to understand how they work and where to place them to direct water flow. Using these tools properly may help you reduce the amount of damage your business could face in the next big storm.
