Do You Have An Odor You Can't Get Rid Of?

12/27/2018 (Permalink)

Do you have an odor from smoke damage or something else in your home? Here at SERVPRO of Aitkin, Carlton & West St. Louis Counties we have equipment to help eliminate that smell. Our ozone generator that generates ozone. Also, we have a hydroxyl generator which is an alternative method for the deodorization process.

The ozone generator is a machine that creates ozone by adding an extra oxygen molecule to the stable breathable oxygen. This creates a less stable compound known as ozone. This gas isn’t something that you should be breathing. If we must use this solution for your odor the home must be unoccupied. This process usually takes 24 hours to do its job. After the ozone has had its time to work its magic we completely air out the structure before it can be occupied again.

The hydroxyl generator is a safer alternative method we use when the structure can’t be emptied of all residents. This method uses UV light to create a hydroxyl radical that reacts with the pollutants and destroys them. This method isn’t as fast as the ozone generator and usually take 4 to 5 days to get the job done.

After SERVPRO of Aitkin, Carlton & West St. Louis Counties has removed the source of the odor, we utilize both extremely powerful methods to aid in the deodorization process to get your home back to a pleasant smell.

If you have a smell that you can't get rid of give SERVPRO of Aitkin, Carlton & West St. Louis Counties a call at (218) 879-6141

Spring HVAC & Duct Cleaning

6/1/2016 (Permalink)

If the air vent looks dirty, then it probably is dirty.

Are you ready to give your home a top-to-bottom buffing this spring? Why not include your HVAC system and duct work? After all your heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system is the heart of your indoor comfort and air quality.

Indoor Air Quality

According to the national Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA), the average six-room house collects 40 pounds of dirt, dust and allergens in its air ducts each year. That’s a big problem, considering that 40,000 dust mites can thrive in only one ounce of dust. Those little dust “bunnies” contain a host of unhealthy bacteria, fungi and mold. The EPA estimates indoor air can be two to five times more polluted than outdoor air. Even worse, the contaminated air circulates throughout your house every time the heating or cooling system kicks on. Your heating and cooling system is the lungs of your home.

Through normal occupation in a home, we generate a great deal of contaminants and air pollutants, such as dander, dust, and chemicals. These contaminants are pulled into the HVAC system and re-circulated 5 to 7 times per day, on average. Over time, this re-circulation causes a build-up of contaminants in the duct work.

Energy Savings

The U.S. Department of Energy says that 25 to 40 percent of the energy used for heating or cooling a home is wasted. Contaminants in the heating and cooling system cause it to work harder and shorten the life of your system. Although filters are used, the heating and cooling system still gets dirty through normal use. When an HVAC system is clean, it doesn’t have to work as hard to maintain the temperature you desire. As a result, less energy is used, leading to improved cost-effectiveness.
